Dorothy's Picks for the 2013 Oscars!!!

Award season is coming to an end and with the final and most prestigious awards, the 85th annual Academy Awards, airing Sunday night I decided to compile a list of who I believe should take home the prominent Oscar statue.

'Beasts of the Southern Wild'-Wallis Prevails in First Motion Picture!!!

Beasts of the Southern Wild’ is a beautiful tale, depicting one courageous six year old girl, Hushpuppy (portrayed by Quvenzhané Wallis) struggling to survive in her flooded bayou community. Hushpuppy lives alone with her father, Wink (Dwight Henry) in a decrepit, falling apart shack. Wink’s health is deteriorating from a mysterious illness, and a storm is expected to hit their small shabby neighborhood. Can Hushpuppy survive on her own and care for her ill-fading father? Or will the waters rise and wash away all that is left?

'Zero Dark Thirty' minutes too long

Director Kathryn Bigelow is back with another Oscar nominated war drama, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ focusing on the decade long search for Al-Qaeda terrorist, Osama Bin Laden. The film begins with eerie phone calls from loved ones during one of the most devastating days in American history, September 11, 2001. The story begins to unfold, with Maya (portrayed by Jessica Chastain) as a CIA operative who will stop at nothing to find and destroy America’s most wanted man.

'Django Unchained' submits to greatness!!!

Director Quentin Tarantino is back with another outlandish controversial film, ‘Django Unchained.’ The film stars Academy Award winners Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and three time Academy Award nomineeLeonardo DiCaprio. ‘Django Unchained’ focuses on a freed slave, Django (Foxx) that teams up with a German bounty hunter (Waltz) to save his wife (portrayed by Kerry Washington) from an evil, brutal plantation owner (DiCaprio).

'The Master' Fails to Dominate

The Master’ stars Joaquin Phoenix as navy war veteran, Freddie Quell, who is undecided about his future. Through his uncertain journey, he finds Lancaster Dodd, (Philip Seymour Hoffman), and thus embarks on “The Clause.” This clause is a cult and its fierce manipulative leader is Lancaster. The film focuses on the strange relationship that Freddie and Lancaster create throughout their “therapy” sessions. Lancaster has the ability to manipulate minds and breakdown and analyze relationships, such as the master vs. slave.

'Flight' Soars to the Top!!!

Ever imagine riding in an airplane not knowing if it’ll land safely? Ever think that trusting a complete stranger to fly a plane could possibly be under the influence? ‘Flight’ focuses on that very subject. Two time Academy Award winner, Denzel Washington stars as Whip Whitaker, a pilot that miraculously lands a broken plane, but through a thorough investigation stands trial for having a few drinks before flying.

Movies Out This Weekend!!!

Attention Readers

Dear Readers,

I would just like to apologize for my absence these past few weeks/month or so. Due to personal events that have occurred, I have been incapable of writing reviews and keeping up with weekly posts. I'm truly sorry for not staying up to date especially with the Academy Awards coming up on Sunday. I have seen all but one film that is nominated and I will do my absolute best to try and complete some reviews and posts before then. Stay tuned, and keep reading.
